Babylon Village Arts Council Art by the Falls Featured Artist Lucille Fishstein
One of the greatest joys in life is finding your passion. About a decade ago I enrolled in a beginner ceramics class and found that passion. The feel of clay in my hands and the ability to manipulate it into many different forms captivated me. I started out creating simple box forms that evolved into a series of purses and handbags. These forms were created in the style of Trompe l’oeil which is French for “fool the eye”. Each form is indistinguishable from a functional object from the detail in the stitching, the textures, added zipper detail, buttons and lastly glazes. Some of which resemble real leather. Over time, I have evolved by expanding into functional work. There is a delicate balance to my new work. I want to create pieces that show the subtle textures of nature, the impression of a flower or leaf on a plate or vase. My inspiration is found in objects that I find throughout my day. For instance, in the garden to new textures and designs acquired while traveling through Greece with my family. All of my work represents my commitment to incorporating nature, texture, love and family. As my work grows, I look forward to sharing it with you.
