Eileen Carr
Artist
Contact: workoart831@aol.com
My name is Eileen Carr and I reside in West Islip with my husband, Jim. I have been a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital for many years, retiring in 2018. I started drawing and painting many years ago although found to be partly color blind. I started initially using only pencil or charcoal for portraits. In 1994 I started using acrylic paints, painting churches, schools and homes on glass ornaments, for friends and family to celebrate various occasions. These ornaments have made their way to many towns, cities, states and several foreign countries. I have since painted on a variety of surfaces, most recently, as shown by my display here at Sterling National Bank, on repurposed wood pallets. These pallets are dismantled, reassembled and sanded in preparation for my painting. I have had my work displayed in local libraries, as well as the Islip Art Museum. I have also had work selected to be shown at the Fire Island Light House Preservation Art Show in 2018 and 2019.

Welcome to the eclectic mind of me. I have a very open mind so come on in and enjoy the view.
My name is Danielle, a Long Island based assemblage/ mixed media artist, born and raised on Long Island. I was blessed with a mind that has an urge to constantly create, a body that can not sit still and a soul that is always open to new and exciting things. Most of my ideas are inspired by music, movies, the mind of a child and other artists. I became fascinated with mixed media art ten years ago by accident when I ran out of paint. I love the challenge of creating something out of nothing. I’m a little odd and so is my art.

As a kid, all I needed was a cardboard box and left over crayons. An hour later I would have an entire city complete with bridges and highways for my Matchbox cars. Middle school wasn't fun except for art class and wood shop. At home, my ever-developing tree house and many precarious bike ramps in the street dominated the next few years. I grew up liking ‘art stuff’. I enjoyed it. I was ‘good’ at it but I never took art seriously. Thankfully my parents and teachers recognized that art was a huge part of me. I didn’t know it but they were guiding me along the way. At the age of 14, a chance encounter with an osprey inspired me to pick up a camera. I needed to share my experiences with others through photography. For the next 12 years, photography was my world. Then it was painting and ceramics, then woodworking and finally it was becoming an art educator. Ultimately, the visual arts led me to me.

The Artist Currently Known as Q” obtained her pseudonym from the nickname “Susie Q.” She has a wonderful significant other and four amazing, grown children. When not painting, she creates other, useful art: hand painted seashell soap dishes; hand crocheted ponchos, shawls, and afghans; and beaded jewelry. “Q” grew up in the Philadelphia area and moved to Long Island over 35 years ago. She has lived in Dix Hills and Huntington, and now resides in Amityville. Her father still paints, and serves as a huge inspiration. He taught her to use oils at a very young age; after dabbling in airbrush, pen and ink, and colored pencil, she has also picked up acrylics after missing the feeling of holding a brush. There is always some new tool or medium to try...

After growing up in Babylon, N.Y. and many years of studying and creating, I think about my process of creating Art. With a transition into a conscious flow towards an increasing awareness, I find myself naming spirituality to be the foundation of my actions. It holds everything together for me. As I look, listen, and feel with focus on spirituality and inner peace, I express through drawing, painting, and writing.

Steve, an award-winning artist, was inspired by his mother who dabbled in art and did some incredible drawings while being legally blind. However, it wasn’t until after retirement that Steve started drawing as a hobby. Steve is a self-taught artist and never attended art school or took extensive classes to how to become an artist. He loves using charcoal which allows him to produce detailed images that are visually bold with an element of drama. He introduced pastels into many of his pieces for color and additional contrast and vibrance. Steve’s main focus is landmarks and architectural structures on Long Island and in New York City but includes scenes from Europe as well.
Steve’s hobby has blossomed into a fulfilling passion during retirement. He has had many solo art exhibits at places such as Barnes Gallery in Garden City South and Daniel Gale Sotheby’s Gallery in Northport. In addition, Steve has exhibited in numerous library galleries which include the Huntington Public Library, Farmingdale Public Library, Bethpage Public Library, Smithtown Library, etc. Since October 1st 2022 Steve was invited to become a premier member artist at the Firefly Artist Gallery in Northport Village where his art has found a new home.
Steve is also a civic- minded individual who grew up in Long Beach and currently resides in East Northport. After retiring from the corporate world, where he worked as a Corporate Accountant and an Enterprise Technology Account Executive, Steve joined a nonprofit, Rebuilding Together Long Island, as a volunteer. After starting out as a Home Visitor, then Outreach Coordinator, he became a Board Director and is currently helping the organization run as Vice President. The charity utilizes volunteers to provide free safety repairs to homeowners who are financially and physically unable to maintain their homes. Clients are low-income seniors, veterans, families and those with physical limitations.

Stoneware and porcelain artist. Everything is handmade in Babylon, for your home or special gift.
I was born and raised in England. My parents ran a ladies' clothing store. My father had been trained as a Savile Row tailor and was also an accomplished cabinet maker and a capable upholsterer.
I studied history at Oxford University and then, after a spell in financial jobs in London, came to the US to pursue a doctorate in American History at Columbia.
But, I guess, craft was in my genes and not to be denied. I took a pottery course at Riverside Church across the road from Columbia and haven't stopped since!
