Art Partnership Program
The Babylon Village Arts Council is proud to announce its art partnership program with the Babylon High School Art Department to foster the love of art in the next generation. Two Babylon High School students, Madeline Hagan and Marissa Amato will create works of art with supplies in the amount of $300 per student. Under the guidance of Cheryl Schweider, art teacher at Babylon High School, students will learn time management skills, budget constraints, and design options. To experience a real life art exhibit each participant exhibited their work at the 16th Annual Outdoor Art show entitled “Art by the Falls” on May 18, 2024 in Argyle Park which will provide real life interaction with the public. Their work will be displayed at Webster Bank as part of the Rotational Art Program. This program is funded through BVAC membership.
Madeline Hagan, a 12 grader, is the President of Babylon National Art Honor Society. She is most proud of how she incorporates her personality into her pieces. According to Madeline, "I am inspired by the people and sounds that I am surrounded by in my everyday life. I have been surrounded by color and art my entire life and it has made me the artist I am today. My favorite mediums to use are acrylic paint, colored pencil, and watercolor. I love working with abstract pieces as well as realistic. " Madeline plans on keeping art in her future as a hobby and by using art to express her creativity and thoughts in different ways.
Marissa Amato, a senior, is very involved in art in and outside of the art room. Marissa expresses her thoughts about art. "I mostly create work on my own time whenever I can, and I often try to do community service activities that involve art. In my artwork, I am most proud of my ability to bring what I want to draw to life. It has taken me a long time to learn how to tell a story through visuals, but I learn more every day. My favorite medium to work with right now is Prismacolor pencils, but acrylic paint is a close second favorite of mine. I love to draw portraits/people, and I’m getting better at drawing animals." She plans to learn more about color theory and anatomy. .
